Program Description

Intended for experienced dressmakers, fashion teachers and those interested in fashion and design, this program can lead to a challenging career opportunity or be used for personal enrichment. A skillfull combination of two separate but complementary components - technical skills in pattern design and drafting and the creation of individualized designs - allows you to move beyond dependence on commercial patterns. This is coupled with other fashion related areas including drawing, colour and figure theory, textile and costume awareness. This broad-based knowledge encourages participants to appreciate the potential for creative expression and individuality inherent in fashion.

You will:

  • Gain personal enrichment/growth
  • Develop creativity and identity in designing garments for yourself and others
  • Participate in hands-on practice with opportunities to design and create from paper to finished product
  • Create your own patterns using standard and personal measurements
  • Enhance your sewing skills
  • Develop your pattern making skills from basic to advanced
  • Be introduced to fashion drawing and colour theory
  • Explore cyclical fashion including influences from past historical periods/eras
  • Develop an awareness of natural and man-made textiles

A sound knowledge of dressmaking skills is required for the pattern making courses.
