Program Description
Explore the principles and practices of floral design including form techniques, composition, colour, plant identification and care and handling. Learn to create floral arrangements for any occasion with creative expression and originality.
You will:
- Gain personal enrichment and growth.
- Acquire skills for employment in the floral industry.
- Participate in practical, hands-on experiences.
- Develop creativity in designing arrangements.
- Learn the techniques to create basic design styles leading into more advanced styles.
- Learn the techniques to create floral pieces for different occasions, including weddings, funerals, holidays and more.
- Understand the principles and elements of design and the proper usage of colour.
- Be introduced to a variety of fresh and artificial flowers and foliage.
There is an additional cost for materials which is the responsibility of the student.
Non-credit floral workshops may also be offered.

Admission and Registration
You do not need to apply to begin this program. Simply ensure you meet the requirements listed on the Admission Requirements webpage prior to registering.
You must have successfully completed Secondary School English or the equivalent.
Some manual dexterity is required for the use of sharp tools.

Learning Outcomes

- Prepare to enter the retail florist industries and wholesale environments.
- Learn to create basic to advanced styles with confidence.
- Gain a sound knowledge of colour theory, principles and elements of design.
- Identify the proper care and handling for fresh flowers, foliage, and flowering plants.
- Demonstrate the ability to create suitable floral arrangements for different occasions in keeping with client requests and cost constraints.
