Program Description
Prepare to become a key member of the veterinary office and animal health care team with specific veterinary office skills and fundamental animal knowledge. Courses are designed specifically to the practice, procedures and tasks performed in a veterinary office setting which include: client relations, business communications, and an understanding of animal health care.
Provides students with a well-rounded skill set of knowledge and abilities to work effectively in the office environment of a veterinary office, association or business.
Courses are online, offering students flexibility when completing them.
Continuing Education students usually complete this program in approximately two years. The typical workload is five to ten hours per course, per week.
Courses in this program cost approximately $390 each. Textbooks are extra.

Learning Outcomes
Program learning outcomes outline what graduates need to know, and be able to do, after they complete a program.
- Understand and be able to complete basic communication with customers, doctors, other staff.
- Be able to collect, transcribe and report important information through accurate documentation and with professionalism.
- Prepare for, and assist with several common procedures both laboratory and examination room in a veterinary practice.
- Understand basic procedures involved in preparing for veterinary surgeries.
- Understand the basic mechanism of action of the most commonly prescribed veterinary drugs and have a basic working knowledge of the veterinary pharmacy.
- Develop an understanding of quality customer service and the skills associated with the needs of the customer, meeting those needs and fostering an environment that encourages customers to return.
Opportunities
Students will have the skills and abilities to find work in a veterinary office, an agency or institution which deals with small animals or a business which specializes in the health care of small animals. Opportunities may include:
- Office administrative staff in a veterinary-related business.
- Customer service staff in a veterinary-related business.
- Clerical support position in a veterinary-related business.
