Course Description

The Electric & Hybrid Vehicle Service Micro-credential is an upskilling course that provides current licensed 310S Automotive Service Technicians with the specialized skills required for the service, repair, and maintenance of electric and hybrid vehicles. Topics covered include high voltage safety procedures, high voltage vehicles, battery systems, motors, inverters and control systems, charging systems, hybrid and electric powertrains and HVAC systems specific to high voltage vehicles.

Students must complete mandatory safety and information modules on the Canvas online course prior to in-class training. This training will take roughly 6 hours to complete for most learners.

Learners will be given access one week prior to the course start to complete a 6 hour online course on MyCanvas. The second week of the course will be in person, Monday to Friday, at Mohawk College Stoney Creek campus.

 

Note to former students: While this micro-credential was fully funded by a government sponsor, it is treated as a taxable benefit calculated at the market rate of tuition. A T4A tax document for the amount of your tuition support will be available through MyMohawk in the February after your registration.

Learning Outcomes

You will gain critical training in electric vehicle technology. This micro credential is broken into nine modules. The first module introduces critical safety information and is completed online prior to the beginning of training. Online safety training must be completed in advance of the course’s five-day face-to-face, hands-on portion. The online safety module will be reviewed on the first day of in-person training in preparation for practical work. Modules two through nine are designed to cover extensive hands-on practical exercises, including high-voltage battery removal in both a hybrid and fully electric vehicles, lithium-ion battery pack disassembly and testing, high-voltage motor testing, DTC diagnosis on several brands of electric vehicles, testing and bleeding high-voltage cooling systems and identifying regenerative braking systems.
