Course Description

This course provides students with a strong understanding of the skill and knowledge required to operate an anesthetic delivery unit. Students will develop a strong technical expertise in all equipment associated with the anesthetic gas machine. Students will gain core knowledge on the anesthetic delivery unit components including vaporizers, breathing systems, ventilators, scavenging systems and gas monitors. This course will also focus on the clinical application and various modes of mechanical ventilation. Students will explore current practices in preparation, operation and troubleshooting of the anesthetic gas machine and workstation. Students will explore the uses of airway and adjunct equipment used to administer anesthesia to patients.
