Course Description

Benefit from the opportunity to integrate breastfeeding knowledge and skills in working with breastfeeding clients in a hospital and/or community setting, having successfully completed both theory courses of the Breastfeeding Program.

Students preparing for Clinical Placement should visit our Preclinical / Clinical webpage and our Clinical FAQ for details and information on the process. Students will be expected to develop a learning plan which is an opportunity to design the clinical experience to meet individual learning needs.

Important Notice: Registration for this course is restricted and is only available to students who have started the program in Fall 2023 or prior semesters. 

Potential and in-progress students must be aware that most agencies accepting clinical/placement students require you to be fully vaccinated with Health Canada approved vaccines. If you are not fully immunized, it may have a significant impact on your ability to participate in clinical/field placement.

Registration for this course is restrictedIt is the responsibility of the student to find a practicum site.

Students must complete HLTH10223 – Preplacement/Clinical Services, not part of the program of study, to ensure all required preplacement clearances are up-to date. Students will not be approved to register in this course if their preplacement requirements are not up-to date. All requirements must also be valid throughout the duration of your practicum.

Once registered:

  1. Notify CEClinical Specialist of your preferred site(s) to confirm that an affiliation agreement is in place. Students will not be permitted to start their placement hours without an active affiliation agreement with the site. 
  2. Once confirmed, student may go ahead and secure dates with the practicum site.
  3. Practicum information (start/end date, location, preceptor contact, etc) must be communicated with the CEClinical Specialist and instructor prior to your start date.
  4. Student must access the course page to review the practicum handbook and/or documents required. 

Additional information will be provided by the Clinical Placement Specialist who may assist, if needed, in locating a practicum site.
