Course Description

Focuses on strategies caregivers can use to safely and appropriately prevent escalation of responsive behaviours of older adults with dementia. Students will learn to differentiate between environmental, programming based and care-giving interventions. The course will include a variety of interactive application activities. Students will practice selecting the interventions to apply in high vs low risk situations, in residential and in community-care settings. The impact, of building and sustaining relationships, with the entire care team, on intervention strategies, will be emphasized. Finally, students will learn why and how to document incidences of responsive behaviour.
