Course Description

Examine the effects of various infant and maternal issues on breastfeeding. Topics include the following: infant issues such as premature birth, birth trauma; maternal issues such as breast pathology, pregnancy and labour complications, insufficient milk supply, breast surgery, weaning practices, and returning to work. Ethical issues related to practice such as understanding informed consent, possible legal issues and protection of the vulnerable and at risk populations will also be included.
