HMNS10103 - Working with Exceptionalities
Course Description
Explore the concept of exceptionalities in children and youth including historical and theoretical perspectives and methods used in psychological assessments and treatments in conjunction with biological, psychological and sociocultural influences that contribute to our present understanding of exceptionalities. Identify common characteristics of a wide variety of exceptionalities using the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. Examine current treatment and resources used in the field of Child and Youth Care through case applications which address the complex needs of a youth and the development of a strength-based, culturally relevant treatment plan.This course follows a synchronous delivery model with live virtual lectures. These online lectures will be scheduled at various points throughout the course, with other weeks dedicated to independent work. Course content will be available on MyCanvas starting from the official course start date, and the lectures can be accessed through MyCanvas as well.
